Data sources
Where the evidence comes from.
Every number in a CONVICTION result names its source and when it was fetched. Here is the complete list.
Last updated: October 2026
Supported chains
Ethereum, Base, Solana, BNB Smart Chain. Chains are added through provider adapters, so the scoring engine does not change.
DEX Screener: primary market evidence
- Token pairs: liquidity, volume, buy/sell trade counts, price change, market cap/FDV and pair creation time for a token's pairs. We aggregate the five deepest pairs on the token's chain.
- Search: used only to find candidate tokens for a cashtag that is not in our curated registry.
- Pair lookup: resolves pair URLs (DEX Screener, DEXTools, GeckoTerminal…) to the token being traded.
- Paid orders and boosts: disclosed as “paid promotion context”. They lower confidence and never count as organic attention.
DEX Screener documents limits of 300 requests/minute for pair and token endpoints and 60/minute for orders and boosts. CONVICTION stays well below them with client-side rate limits and caching.
DefiLlama: independent price cross-check
- Coins prices: a second price for the same token. A disagreement between sources reduces confidence. DefiLlama prices with a reported confidence below 0.8 are ignored rather than counted as disagreement.
- Chain TVL: chain-level DeFi context.
CoinGecko: optional
An adapter exists for CoinGecko token prices and coingecko.com link resolution. It only runs when an API key is configured. It is not configured in the current beta, so CoinGecko data is not used today and coingecko.com links resolve only for assets in our registry.
CONVICTION's own observations
We store each market snapshot we fetch, so trends such as liquidity change can be measured. A trend is only shown once we have an earlier observation of the same token. We never extrapolate one.
Caching and freshness
| Data | Served from cache for |
|---|---|
| Token pairs (market evidence) | 60 seconds |
| Prices (DefiLlama) | 60 seconds |
| Cashtag search results | 15 minutes |
| Paid orders / boosts | 30 minutes |
| Pair-to-token lookups | 1 hour |
If a provider fails, CONVICTION may serve the last good response for up to two hours, clearly labelled with its age. Under the methodology, data over an hour old can never produce a conviction result. When nothing usable is available, you see “Evidence temporarily unavailable” instead of a score.
Provider calls use timeouts, bounded retries, circuit breakers and rate limits. A provider outage never breaks your X feed.
What CONVICTION does not use
- No crawling or scraping of X. The extension reads only crypto posts already rendered in your own browser.
- No paid X API dependency.
- No wallet-level or “smart money” data in V1. Wallet intelligence would arrive as a separate, versioned provider with its own published methodology.
- No generative AI in scoring.
